The Department of Psychology is seeking to fill a Temporary research associate position for Dr. Sannisha Dale's  . The Research Associate will be responsible for assisting with various studies related to the SHINE Research Program, which is centered around HIV prevention and treatment in marginalized communities, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, adherence to treatment for chronic illnesses, and structural issues (e.g. racism). In addition, the Research Associate will be responsible for helping to coordinate the daily activities for several projects, with the primary projects at the time of hire being (1) an NIMH-funded grant on microaggressions, discrimination, reoccurring violence and resilience among Black women living with HIV and (2) an NIMH-funded grant implementation grant that involves direct engagement with community residents, businesses, and health organizations in local neighborhoods during weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Successful applicants will be very detail-oriented, exercise great time management skills, take initiative on tasks, and work well independently. Due to the time-or deadline sensitive nature of many projects, the pace of work may be demanding at times; however, some projects may be long-term and require constant attention to prioritization.

The primary research projects the Research Associate will work on include those associated with HIV prevention and intervention, other chronic illnesses, oppression/marginalization, and empowerment. The applicant should demonstrate both experience with and interest in psychology and/or mental health research preferably focused on racial/ethnic minority health, LGBTQ health, behavioral medicine, HIV, chronic illnesses, trauma, mental health and/or community health. The applicant will be required to affirm and empower diverse individuals in terms of race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health, substance use, etc. The applicant should demonstrate experience with and a commitment to serving Black communities, other racial/ethnic communities, and the LGBTQ+ community. Having the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously is key. The applicant will be responsible for helping to coordinate research projects on a day-to-day basis, administering measures to participants, and participating in recruitment and retention efforts which will require collaborating with and visiting local communities and agencies.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and  ana lyzing data, entering data, and maintaining databases, etc.
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Collect and enter data.
  • Recruit, screen, and enroll research study participants.
  • Help to coordinate data collection and outreach in local communities.
  • Conduct study visits and administer psycho-social assessments to participants as needed.
  • Monitor protocol compliance, reporting adverse events as required by institutional/federal regulations.
  • Assist with preparation of protocol revisions and safety reports to the IRB and National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Assist with manuscript and presentation preparation as well as the preparation and submission of grant applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field such as psychology, public health, etc.
  • No previous work experience necessary.
  • Experience in public health, minority health, and/or mental health, etc. strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, community engagement skills, and familiarity with Miami neighborhoods.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Highly organized,  ana lytical and detail oriented with strong planning and writing skills, ability to work independently and think through activities.
  • Ability to manage extremely confidential information and coordinate complex projects.
  • Excellent communication – verbal and written, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a collaborative style.
  • Ability to complete project tasks as necessary to meet tight deadlines.
  • Committed to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • Familiarity with financial and IRB systems (preferred).
  • Bilingual (preferred) in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish.

The primary work location of this position is on the Miller School of Medicine campus.
